Heading West - Here We Go Again

Manicured campground at Arrow Rock Missouri

We camped at three nice state parks an Tennessee, Illinois, and Missouri. The first two featured a lot of buildings from the CCC era (great depression “stimulus plan”). The Missouri campground was at Arrow Rock State Historical Park, which is a restored 19th century town (and museum) that was very prominent as the west was settled. It's on the Missouri River supporting north/south water travel and is where the east to west Santa Fe overland trail crossed the river. Interesting bit of history is that the town was almost equally divided between support for the South and the North during the Civil War. The campground here is lightly used, but is the second nicest state park we've stayed at (Ft. Smith Arkansas is still tops). Pretty hot and humid as we traveled. Used camper AC every night.
